Englewood's Energy Action Plan

In 2017, the City Of Englewood developed an "Energy Action Plan" in conjunction with Xcel Energy and the CSU extension. The full plan is available here. Throughout Englewood, commercial, municipal and industrial electricity use constitutes approximate 72% of all electricity use while residential use only accounts for 28% of total electricity use. Likewise, commercial and industrial use of natural gas constitutes 60% of all use while residential use constitutes 40%.

For  the City of Englewood's municipal electricity use, Englewood/Littleton's Wastewater Treatment Plant uses 76% of all municipal electricity. In 2018, The City of Englewood entered into Xcel's "Partners in Energy" program where it agreed to purchase forty percent of its municipal electricity from renewable sources. This agreement also allowed the City to lock in below market rate electricity prices for Englewood's electricity for ten years while effectively reducing the City's greenhouse gas emissions by forty percent.

The City still has many options to continue to lower its emissions while saving money including looking at options to produce electricity on-site at the Wastewater Plant and potentially implementing community solar gardens. CASE believes the solutions are within reach to achieve 100% renewable energy in Englewood by 2030. CASE will continue to be involved in pushing the City, our neighbors and local businesses to save money, clean our air and lower greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency and renewable energy options and we would love to have you involved.
